I want to lease a shop for my business, do i need a lawyer?

October 18, 2018 By Keating Law

It’s always wise to seek legal advice if you’re unsure about a contract or an agreement you intend to enter. A lease is just that, an agreement with the owner of the premises allowing you the right to occupy that space, provided of course you pay rent.

A lease is a very important document in that it governs your rights, responsibilities and relationship with the landlord. For that reason, it’s important you know and understand what’s in the lease and what the terms mean.

A lawyer’s role in acting in a leasing matter for a tenant is to review, consider and advise on the terms of the lease. This is to make sure the tenant understands what is expected of him or her under the lease.

Take the time to read the lease. Ask questions. Identifying issues with the lease before it’s entered is much more preferable than after.
